Celebrating Innovation: Radiant Innovation Finalist for 2024 Coolest Thing in Colorado

We’re thrilled to announce that Radiant Innovation was selected as a finalist for the 2024 Coolest Thing Made in Colorado award, a prestigious recognition presented by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce. This award celebrates the ingenuity and resourcefulness of companies across Colorado, and Radiant Innovation’s Solar-Powered Cold Storage system embodies these qualities perfectly. Designed to operate entirely off-grid, these cutting-edge units deliver reliable cold storage solutions to communities and organizations that need them most, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional cold storage technology.

Radiant Innovation’s Solar-Powered Cold Storage system is more than just an impressive technological feat—it represents a vital advancement in addressing food security challenges and environmental sustainability. As populations grow and climate conditions become more unpredictable, solutions that reduce dependency on traditional power grids are critical. Radiant’s units provide resilient, adaptable cold storage options that ensure preserved food access for underserved regions, from urban farms to disaster response zones. The Solar-Powered Cold Storage system exemplifies how Colorado companies like Radiant are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, innovating solutions that not only serve immediate needs but also pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Partnering for Success: Palmer DCS & Radiant Innovation Collaboration

Since 2022, Palmer DCS has been proud to support Radiant Innovation with engineering and manufacturing services to bring this groundbreaking cold storage technology to life. Together, we developed two proof-of-concept units that are currently in use: one at an urban farm in Arvada and the other at a food distribution center in East Denver. These projects showcase the power of collaboration, bringing together Palmer’s engineering and manufacuting expertise and Radiant’s vision for sustainable storage.

A Solution for the Future: The Solar-Powered Cold Storage System

Manufactured at Palmer DCS’s Englewood, Colorado facility, each Solar-Powered Cold Storage unit is built with advanced insulated shipping containers equipped with solar panels, batteries, electronics, and refrigeration systems. Designed to operate entirely off-grid, these units deliver cold storage solutions for essential applications, from local farming and food distribution to emergency food storage for communities in need. To date, ten units have been constructed, with five deployed in California and five in Colorado. Available as both refrigerators and freezers, each unit is adaptable to varying levels of solar irradiation, providing resilient storage options in areas where access to reliable electricity is

limited or unavailable. This versatility allows the units to serve diverse needs, ensuring communities have access to preserved food and resources when it matters most.
